The DNA of Kyiv

In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Our conversations with the local experts we introduce over these two episodes took place amid the ongoing war, against a backdrop of potential power blackouts and air-raid sirens. We might think of Kyiv as an ancient city in a turbulent present in which its citizens have been actively fighting for more than 1,000 days to defend Ukrainian independence, freedom and sovereignty. Across these episodes, we learn about Kyiv as a cradle of Eastern Slavic civilisation, as a meeting place of religions, cultures and empires, and as a city that is home to tenacious, self-determining and caring people, who are united in the struggle to maintain their hard-won independence.
